Amanda Duchen

As an artist, both in architecture and ceramics, I am inspired in transforming an idea into a functional reality. My goal is to attain excellence and beauty in architecture and design and to contribute to the common cultural heritage. I believe strongly in surrounding oneself with pleasing objects and comforting environments and I strive to integrate the space as a welcoming refuge.

In my ceramics with the use of different glazes, clays and firing techniques, including Raku, every piece is unpredictably and delightfully unique. I continue to be enthralled and fascinated by the power and liberty one has in ceramics. My training as an architect can be seen in my ceramic pieces where I play with form and space in often unusual ways. I aim to create smooth, organic forms, which should be enjoyable and pleasing to the eye. My pieces are more than pieces of art, and I want them to be used, nurtured and enjoyed so they bring comfort and joy always.
