Kehler Liddell Gallery presents: Time and Space, a group exhibition of work by member artists, on view in the gallery November 6th – December 20th, 2020. In lieu of an opening reception, several special events are planned. See below for details.

As the artists at KLG began to discuss ideas for this year’s group show, notions of time emerged as a potential unifying theme to an exhibition that is generally, mostly, just about space:

“For this annual group show, we usually divide up the gallery equally, and invite artists to exhibit any work they choose, within about 6ft of space. As we were talking this year, I think some of us wanted a little extra inspiration, a little extra buzz,” says gallery director, and exhibiting artist, Liz Antle-O’Donnell.

It all started when photographer Mark St. Mary mentioned how, while gallery sitting, he had observed visitors rushing through the space, and not spending much time with the artworks. In response, he had developed a concept for a show that would invite guests to move through the space following the sound of a timed-chime. A small group of artists then started to think about this concept more broadly, and proposed that the artworks themselves center around similar themes.

Working in a wide range of media, the artists touch on a broad array of related subjects, from investigations into the passing of time in the natural world, to musings on contemporary life, to more abstract and personal moments of meditation. The physical installation on the gallery walls will also correlate to the thematic thrust of the show. The back third of the gallery – the North Gallery – is currently a group exhibition with over 100 artworks presented in SalonStyle. The juxtaposition creates a kind of play with space/no-space, time/no-time.

In addition to the current limited open hours (Friday, Saturday, and first Sundays, 11am-2pm), there are several special events planned. As follows:

Do You Have a Minute? - an interactive art experiment - Sat, December 5th, and Sun, December 6th, 11am-2pm: During the first weekend in December, gallery visitors will be invited to participate in a kind of art experiment. Navigating the gallery following a path that will be mapped on the floor, visitors will move from space to space each time a chime plays. Following the experience, visitors will be invited to discuss, at a distance, how the art-viewing experience did, or did not, change, at the conclusion of the guided tour.

Evening Hours / Date Nights - Thursday, December 17th and Friday, December 18th, 5-7pm: KLG will be open for special evening hours. Additionally, for $30, guests can sign up to make a night of it, and pair their evening at the gallery, with a visit to a local restaurant within walking distance. This month, we will partner with the brand new Peruvian restaurant, Amaru. Check www.KehlerLiddellGallery.com/specialevents for details.
